Our second session focuses on trustee recruitment. There'll also be plenty of time to explore topics and subjects that are important to you and help you to connect with other trustees in the room with guided networking.

We meet three times a year to learn, forge connections, share knowledge and build our collective confidence and capacity. And, most of all, grow and strengthen our practice to be outstanding trustees. Each event will include a main theme with content given in an engaging way, guided networking to connect with each other and plenty of time for interactive elements to explore together the main theme plus other topics that come up during the event.

Our gatherings are in March, July and November each year, all at TURF in Good Space. The dates for 2019 are 28 March, 11 July and 6 November.

Communities of practice

Communities of practice are “groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly”. The idea was developed by Etienne and Beverley Wenger-Trayner.

A community of practice needs three things: a shared interest, a community and a practice plus time and regular interaction.

  • shared interest: community members share an interest or domain, are committed to it and have shared skills and know how.
  • community: community members come together in joint activities and discussions, help each other, share information, build relationships, grow trust, learn from each other and care about everyone doing well.
  • practice: community members are practitioners and develop shared resources and practices such as experiences, stories, tools and ways of addressing recurring problems.
