Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion - Aims of Brief:

Compton Verney would like to commission a facilitator/s to explore fully and embed an equalities, diversity and inclusion ready culture at Board level; this will bring together all Governors around:

  • Developing a unified understanding of a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment at Board level
  • Developing Board level leadership which monitors progress across the organisation in relation to equalities, diversity and inclusion and reviews progress regularly

The objectives of the work with Governors are to:

Ensure there is a shared understanding of equalities, diversity and inclusion which positions public relevance and improves the ability of Compton Verney to deliver public benefit as part of the One Compton Verney Strategy and the charitable objectives.

Balancing diverse perspectives and opportunities across the organisation through a shared understanding and an approach to inclusive decision making.

Enabling a fair, welcoming and open recruitment process to diversify the board that results in recruitment of a more diverse governor profile and establishes inclusive practice and values.

This with other actions ensures that CVHT is working towards inclusive outcomes by:

Embedding diverse decision making from the top and embracing a board culture that is open, welcoming and transparent.

Reducing obstacles across the organisation, challenging inequality and improving outcomes.

Enabling the Board to view every aspect of the organisation’s activity through an informed position on equalities, diversity and inclusion, and be able to identify an holistic strategic approach to equality, diversity and inclusion across the charity in all areas.

Enabling the Board to agenda regular assessment of progress in this area through data analysis; diversity of programme, artists, employees and volunteers; consultation and involving audiences; decision making – and enabling the board to identify any gaps which need addressing, or latent bias in any areas.

Enabling the Board to set a clear organisational approach to equality, diversity and inclusion in line with CVHT’s aims and objectives, strategic plan. This will be supported by policies, performance indicators and deadlines, which are reviewed regularly.

Enabling the Board to maintain inclusive cultures, practices and behaviours in all of its decision making. Leading the organisation to meet all targets, learning and training objectives and keep under review.

The Commission

The consultant/s commissioned will work directly with the Board to facilitate an informed discursive approach, to enable the Board to understand and agree the strategic perspective on equalities, diversity and inclusion, which can be adopted and cascaded as part of the One Compton Verney principle. They will also establish a board recruitment plan for equalities, diversity and inclusion. The preferred consultants will be selected on the basis of their suitability to meet the aims of this project.

The approach will be designed by the consultant as part of the submission, ideally completing the work with the Board by the end of June 2021, to inform the Away Day in July and commencements of Board recruitment.

The Board are open to new ways of working, challenge and exploration, learning and new thinking, new perspectives and informed opinions, lived experiences and new experiences.

The fee for this work is £5,000 (Inc. VAT and expenses). Submissions in writing emailed to Julie.finch@comptonverney.org.uk by 21st March, 2021.

Short submission to include:

  • Approach to working with the Board
  • Preparatory work e.g. reading or on-line training for Trustees if appropriate
  • Time frame and ways of working (Teams/Zoom/In Person)
  • Relevant experience
  • Reference Projects
